Used car market report
A monthly overview of the used car market in Iceland, from every used car on the site: how many cars were for sale, how many came on the market and left it, what sellers asked and how long the cars stayed. Published on the 5th of each month.
The first report is due on Nov 5, 2026.
How it is calculated
These are asking prices, not sale prices, and listings, not sales. Each car counts once, even when it is listed in more than one place. New cars, auctions and damaged cars are left out, and so are listings with an implausible price or mileage. Prices quoted without VAT are counted with it.
A car is for sale at the end of the month when its listing was up then. It is new when it came on the market in the month, and it left the market when its listing ended in the month and had not come back by the end of it. Days on the market run from the date the car was first listed to the last day we saw it.
A price cut is a price at the end of the month below the price at its start. Medians are shown from 10 cars, and a model or make from 10 cars for sale. Only totals are published: no listing, price or seller can be told from them.
Each month is published once, on the 5th of the next month. The data file holds every month published so far.
The report shows the month as it was, so its median price moves when the mix of cars moves. The price index compares like with like. See the price index
