Used car price index
Whether the same kind of car is advertised for more or less than the month before. Calculated from the asking prices of every used car on the site and published on the 5th of each month. October 2026 is 100.
The first release, with the first monthly change, is due on Dec 5, 2026.
How it is calculated
These are asking prices, not sale prices: what sellers ask for in their listings.
Cars are grouped by make, model, age, mileage and fuel. For each group with at least three cars in both months the median asking price is compared, and the change is the average over the groups, weighted by their number of cars. So a month with more cheap cars for sale does not move the index.
Each car counts once, even when it is listed in more than one place. New cars, auctions and damaged cars are left out, and so are listings with an implausible price or mileage. Prices quoted without VAT are counted with it.
Each month is published once, on the 5th of the next month. The data file holds every month published so far.
