About Allir Bílar

What Allir Bílar is

Allir Bílar puts used car listings in Iceland in one place. Instead of checking each dealer site and Facebook Marketplace on its own, you can search them together here and see how an asking price compares with similar cars.

What you can do

The site is free to use. You can:

  • Search listings by make, model, year, mileage and price.
  • See an estimated price for a car, calculated from comparable listings on the site.
  • Browse today's good buys: listings priced 10 to 35% below their estimate.
  • Look up cars that are no longer listed, usually because they sold.
  • See the asking prices by model year and the supply of the most common makes and models.
  • Save listings and searches with a free account.

Where the data comes from

An automated collector reads the listings on Icelandic dealer and sales sites, among them Bílasölur.is, Bílaland, Hekla, Brimborg and Íslandsbílar, and on Facebook Marketplace. Each listing links back to where it was published and shows the date it was first seen.

Makes and models are cleaned up so the same car is named the same way, and when the same car is found listed on more than one site, it is shown once.

How the estimate is made

Every evening a price model is fitted again to the asking prices in the listings, both the cars for sale and those no longer listed. It works out how the price of each make, model and model year falls with age and mileage. A model or year with few cars is priced close to its make or model, and newer listings count more than old ones.

Prices of ISK 100,000 or less, mileages that look wrong and vehicles that are not cars are left out of the model.

The price check shows a likely range, and most similar cars are priced inside it. When you enter an asking price, a verdict (good buy, within the usual range, above it or unusually low) is shown only if the estimate rests on at least 10 cars of the same model year. A good buy is below the likely range and 10 to 35% below the estimate. A price more than 35% below the estimate we call unusually low: then something about the car or the ad is more likely wrong than the price is good.

What the estimates cannot see

Estimates are built from asking prices, not final sale prices, and they know nothing about a particular car's condition, history or equipment. Listings can be out of date. Use the estimate as one reference point and check the original listing and the car itself before you buy.

Independent

Allir Bílar is independent and is not affiliated with any dealer, manufacturer or listing site.
